For those who weren’t invited to the maiden edition of FASHION CONNECT AFRICA, we ‘commiserate’ with you, and for those who were invited, we ‘congratulate’ you. In a nutshell, we must with our collective voices, say a big ‘ayeekooo’ to Victoria Michaels and her Team for putting this initiative together; appreciating the truth that she’s gradually building a name for herself, can do best, albeit, must be encouraged never to have an iota-thought of quitting.
The 30th of December, 2019, was simply to inspire, empower and showcase established and upcoming fashion creatives’ crafts to the world, as well as bring fashion lovers into a creative space where they can connect, interact, enjoy, network, learn, be inspired and have lots of fun – and so it was!
From the Master Class session with David Tlale in the morning, to the main event inside the plush Movenpick Ambassador Hotel, as hosted by the evergreen Kwasi Kyei Darkwa (aka KKD) and the delectable Berla Mundi – we must say that we had a never-ending-party. Not leaving any ‘T’ not crossed, we must convey that Irene Logan, M.anifest and Wiyaala gave attendees some eye-catching and fingers-snapping pretty performances to remember till eternity.
For attendees, they would agree with us that organizers were creative, aesthetically pleasing and forward thinking; from start to finish. The organizers proved that they didn’t come to joke as the theme cum lip-smacking experiences of the production crew was felt, with no dull moment showing its head.
Organizers from the word ‘go’, phanthomed that, that night was going to be a goldmine for the world to see, appreciate and fall in love with Africa. And thus, they created a histrionic ‘drama’ to climax the ‘Year of Return’ calendar.
On the night, we must praise the designers who showcased their apparels, with narratives that Africa is blest and would continuously push its boundaries of normality. Together with the organizers, attendees, everyone who was involved with this event – answered every curiosity with incessant applause.
With such a night of genuine upliftment like that, there is this believable swagger all over our hearts that whichever country the organizers, led by Victoria Michaels, would be hosting the 2020 edition next – the privilege would be another crystal clear view of the peak that African Fashion lives on.
