Chydee William is a Nigerian who resides in Ghana. She was one-time Vodafone ICONS 1st runner up. Though she didn’t win that competition, she created an avenue to stardom which she is riding on. We caught up with her at her home in Accra, Ghana, to find out how life has been after contesting few years ago; we touched on her education as well as touched on life after school.

As a songstress with a class, we spoke extensively on her kind of music and performances with which one recently got her a standing ovation with dignitaries including the current Vice President, Amissah Arthur.

Ytainment.com in this interview took Chydee open up on issues she has not told anyone yet until now. Enjoy.

HELLO CHIDI, HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU. THE LAST TIME WE HEARD OF YOU WAS ABOUT THREE YEARS AGO, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN AND WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING?

I have been around o; I just rounded up my degree program at Ghana Technology University College, here in Accra, where I obtained a degree in Accounting.

SCHOOL HAS BEEN PART OF YOUR TIME, AND YOU GRADUATED WITH A REASONABLE GRADE, HOW WAS THE FEELING LIKE COMBINING SCHOOL AND MUSIC TOGETHER?

It was exciting though not easy. I had to combine going for classes and recording at studios and going for shows.

NOW YOU ARE OUT OF SCHOOL, WHAT HAS LIFE BEING LIKE FOR YOU?

Life has been good; we thank God for the grace and mercies. We appreciate life better as we move on each passing day.

LET US TALK A BIT ABOUT YOUR MUSIC CAREER, YOU WERE IN THE ICONS COMPETITION IN GHANA, YOU ROCKED SO HARD AND ALL THE FANS CLAMOURED THAT YOUR SHOULD HAVE WON BUT YOU CAME OUT SECOND, HOW DID YOU FEEL ON THAT NIGHT?

Honestly, it’s not a good feeling to come so close to something and lose it but, that’s life you know. It was an emotional night but I thank God for the grace to come that far in the competition.

YOU WERE PROBABLY THE ONLY NON-GHANAIAN ON THAT PLATFORM THAT YEAR; WOULD YOU SAY THAT, THAT AFFECTED YOUR CHANCES OF NOT PICKING UP THE ULTIMATE PRIZE ON THAT NIGHT?

Well, I may not know. All I know was that I and my Team did our best.

MOST CONTESTANTS, WHO GO INTO REALITY TV SHOWS SOMETIMES COME OUT DISAPPOINTED, HAVE YOU OR DID YOU EVER FEEL DISAPPOINTED IN THE ORGANIZATION OF THE ICONS COMPETITION DURING YOUR ERA?

Well, the word disappointment is relative. Yes I was sad we didn’t win, but I knew that was a huge opportunity and platform as well.

DO YOU AGREE WITH SOME SCHOOL OF THOUGHT THAT SAYS THAT SOMETIMES THE JUDGES’ BEST ON A PARTICULAR REALITY NIGHT, DON’T END UP BECOMING THE FANS FAVOURITE AS WELL AS GO ON TO MAKE AN IMPACT IN THEIR CAREER AFTERWARDS; DO YOU AGREE?

These issues depend on a lot of factors. The ability of the artist to stay relevant after the competition is also key.

HOW WELL DID YOU USE THE PLATFORM AND NEW FOUND POSITION TO YOUR ADVANTAGE YEARS AFTERWARDS?

I went back to school after the competition, worked hard to obtain a good degree, and combined it with singing. I perform mostly at corporate events and weddings.

INTO YOUR MUSIC LIFE PROPERLY, MOST OF YOUR FANS WOULD HAVE BEEN EXPECTING AN ALBUM FROM YOU BY NOW, WHY HAS THAT NOT HAPPENED YET?

After the show, I needed to find my niche. I had a couple of singles out but I felt they were not really ready to be put out there as a ‘Chydee William’ song, so I have been working on my craft. However, I am ready now; I am actually working on an ‘Acoustic Album’. My Music is filled with a lot of positivity and good vibes so I am taking my time to bring out the best.

WITH COLLABORATIONS SO FAR, WHO WOULD YOU LOVE TO HAVE THAT ‘BREAK OR MAKE’ KIND OF MUSIC THAT WILL TAKE THE WORLD BY STORM AND STAMP YOUR FEET ON THE SANDS OF TIME?

That would be Asa. I would love to work with Asa because even though our styles are slightly different, I can relate more to her kind of Music.

IN 2014, YOU DID PERFORM ON SOME SHOWS; WALK US THROUGH INTO THOSE SHOWS

Yes, 2014 that was a good year. I played a lot of shows; most of them were corporate and private events like I told you earlier. I sang at the State House, during the Late Fashion Icon, Kofi Ansah’s memorial service. I also performed at the during the Navy end of year dinner 2013 at the Naval Mess in Accra, to dignitaries including the current Vice President, Amissah Arthur where I got a standing ovation. I also played at the Ghana Banking Awards towards the end of the year 2014.

The most recent one was at La Piazza Restaurant, an Italian Restaurant on the old American Embassy Road in Osu on the 14th of February, Valentine’s Day where I treated my listeners to beautiful love tunes for over four4 hours.

STILL ON THE 2014 SHOWS, WHICH WAS YOUR WORST PERFORMANCE AND WHICH WILL YOU SEAT AND WANT TO ROCK AGAIN AND AGAIN?

Every show has had its strong and weak points but I thank God for all.

AS A RECORDING SONGSTRESS, DO YOU THINK THAT NOW YOU HAVE FINALLY COME IN TO SETTLE, WOULD YOU BE ABLE TO COMPETE WITH THE ALREADY KNOWN NAMES IN THE INDUSTRY?

Oh yes, I have come to stay, the world should get ready for me.

MANAGEMENT WISE, A CLOSE SOURCE SAID YOU FIRED YOUR MANAGER FOR INCOMPETENCE, HOW TRUE IS THAT AND WHY WOULD YOU FIRE YOUR MANAGER IF TRULY YOU DID?

Firing Manager? When did that happen? Well maybe this source was not talking about me because I have a strong bond with my team and I hold them high esteem.

AS A NIGERIAN LIVING IN GHANA, DO YOU THINK THAT THE CURRENT TREND OF MUSIC YOU DO WILL MAKE IMPACT IN GHANA OR MORE IN NIGERIA?

My music will touch the Africa and the world. I believe with time, everything will fall in place.

ON YOUR RELATIONSHIP, YOU HAVE BEEN LINKED WITH TOP NOTCH CELEBRITIES IN GHANA, ESPECIALLY WITH ONE FAIR IN COMPLEXION, ABOUT 5.4FT TALL ACTOR IN GHANA; HOW TRUE IS THAT AND IF YOU ARE REFUSING TO CONFIRM THAT, WHO IS THE MAN IN YOUR LIFE NOW?

Relationship? Leave that one, it’s private. Let’s talk MUSIC.

HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT OF GOING BACK HOME TO DO YOUR MUSIC?

Like I said, my Music is something I want to share with Africa and the world so I will definitely also do it at home.

WHAT IS 2015 BRINGING WITH YOU, CHYDEE – IN TERMS OF MUSIC, CAREER AND MOST OF ALL, WHAT CAN YOUR ESTEEM FANS EXPECT FROM YOU?

My Fans should expect a great Acoustic album, filled with Positive Music. We need more positivity in the world. They can also follow me on my social media pages and get some of my songs and covers.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND WE HOPE TO HAVE YOU ON OUR COUCH TO TALK ABOUT 2015 AND THE BLESSINGS SO FAR.

Thanks for having me.
