Out of the blue, came NINA RICCHIE
Out of the blue, she gave us the ‘blues’ when she accepted to be dared to sell ‘Pure Water’ on iSocial television program. NINA RICCHIE, a Toronto-born Ghanaian in the past few weeks has got everyone talking about what nearly might (would) have been, if she had not accepted the challenge – but here we are after a fulfillment of duty which arguably the entire African continent have gleefully come to terms that when the born-musician purrs, it is beautiful to behold. Adeyemi Adebayo of Ytainment spoke with the ebony damsel who told us why she accepted the daring challenge in the first place, how she fared in the challenge and wait for this, “…a lot of people stopped me for my number and not for water”, she innocently added. After about forty-three-minutes tête-à-tête, we fell in love with her brilliance, thus, appreciating her as a lady who always produces a story – no matter where and how she finds herself.
Enjoy…
YOU ARE GRADUALLY BECOMING KNOWN, BUT IT ALL GINGERED AFTER THE ‘PURE WATER’ GIG – WHO IS NINA?
I am a budding artiste from Toronto, Canada that came all the way to Ghana to follow my dreams. I’m also a signed to DBlack’s label Black Avenue Muzik. I also have a new single called ‘GIVE IT TO ME’ feat DBlack.
YOU DO MUSIC – HOW WOULD YOU RATE YOURSELF?
I started off with a pop song recorded in Toronto as ‘Skrilla and Friends’, which my Ex was part of (Skrilla is a producer). It was my Ex that was enforcing that I should do music again, so thanks to him. When we were kids I always used to sing to him. Anyway, so we recorded the ‘With You’ single at my house and to be honest, I was basically just trying it out. To my greatest surprise, people loved it, thus, so I gave it a shot in Ghana after a popular Mc in Toronto called Diivapromo kept buzzing it. Somehow, DBlack heard of the song, he loved it and now as they say, “…the rest is history”.
YOU ARE SIGNED ONTO DBLACK’S BAM, HOW HAS THE RELATIONSHIP GONE SO FAR – ARE YOU HAPPY? HOW IS YOUR MUSIC DOING UNDER YOUR NEW RECORD LABEL?
So far so good, getting some good feedback, the fans love what I am doing and we are happy as a family. My song, ‘Give it to Me’ is regularly played everywhere. I love my team we communicate every day and we all support each other. It’s really a teamwork thing.
LET’S TALK ABOUT THE iSOCIAL DARING GIG THAT HAS ALMOST GOTTEN YOU FROM ‘THERE’ TO ‘HERE’ NOW. HOW DID IT START?
For the iSocial daring gig it was honestly scheduled as a regular interview for me; they told me that I was going to be dared to do something ‘crazy’ days before. I didn’t know what ‘crazy’ meant so I asked to see which (budding) celebrities have been dared like myself. From footages, I saw some pretty famous people like actors, TV hosts, among others that have been dared to deliver a Samsung TV, sell roasted meat on the street, etc. So I thought mine wouldn’t be that hard or even that big of a dare. When I was on set they told me that I was going to sell water sachets and I was shocked and a little bit nervous. But it turned out to be fine.
WHAT WAS THE REAL MOTIVE AND WHY DID YOU ACCEPT TO BE DARED?
I did the dare because it’s something I’ve never done nor would have ever thought to do it and I really wanted to try it out. Secondly it was for charity work and I absolutely wanted to help someone and have the person go home happy on that particular day. The proceeds went to the lady.
YOU WERE DARED TO SELL PURE WATER, HOW WOULD YOU RATE YOUR PERFORMANCE?
I would give myself a 7.5 for my performance because I sold 50ghc worth of pure water and other drinks in about an hour. However, I was a bit nervous about it. I think if I wasn’t so nervous I could have done an amazing job.
WAS THE EXPERIENCE PAINFUL – DID YOU SUFFER ANY NECK PAIN, BACK ACHE; DID YOU HAVE FUN?
The experience was fun but I did complain about my head aching at the end of the whole process. I respect the people that do this every day.
WHO SUPPLIED THE PURE WATER THAT YOU SOLD?
The lady that I helped to sell her pure water was the one that supplied it. I stopped her and asked her if she was willing to allow me to assist her sell her basket full of drinks and she obliged without hesitations.
DID PEOPLE TRY GETTING FAMILIAR BY ASKING YOUR NUMBER ETC
(Lol) A lot of people stopped me for my number and not for water – hahaha! Obviously I had to remain focus and do what was the order of the day.
WHY DID YOU DRESS PROVOCATIVELY TO SELL ON THAT DAY – WHAT WAS YOUR INTENTION?
Honestly, this is the way I dress and I didn’t know how my dare would be or what it really was. If I knew I was selling pure water I probably would have kept the same outfit, but maybe in a brighter color.
WOULD YOU TRY SELLING PURE WATER IN REAL LIFE, ONE-DAY – MAYBE FOR CHARITY?
I would definitely sell it again for charity and actually purchase a lot more and give them to the homeless especially for those dear kids. I have a soft spot for kids I must say – so it’s a yes!
WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD FOR NINA ASIDE MUSIC OR ‘PURE WATER’ SELLING?
As for the future, I’ll be dropping a new single in December and will be working on a whole bunch of songs. I might do some more charity work I guess.
