To help curb the spread of the Covid-19 infections in South Africa, Uber is now re-enforcing passengers to wear a mask with the launch of a new ‘mask verification’ tool before taking the ride.
If a driver reports that a rider wasn’t wearing a mask, the rider will be required to take a selfie with their face covered before they’re able to take another trip with Uber. Drivers are also required to verify that they’re wearing a mask before they can start accepting trips.
“Masks are mandatory for riders and drivers, and both of you can leave feedback if the other isn’t wearing one,” stated in a mail sent by Uber to users.
“If we receive feedback about anyone consistently violating our mask policy, they will be blocked from the Uber app”.
The mask verification feature is now available in South Africa.
