Apple has officially released iOS 15.4 and iPadOS 15.4 for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
iOS 15.4 adds the ability to unlock with Face ID while wearing a mask on iPhone 12 and newer models. This update also includes new emoji, a new voice option for Siri, and other features and bug fixes for your iPhone.
Some features may not be available for all regions or on all Apple devices.
See key features on this update:
Face Mask:
To use Face ID while wearing a mask, iPhone can recognize the unique features around the eye area to authenticate. You must be looking at your iPhone to use Face ID while wearing a mask.
Users can toggle the feature ON from the ‘Face ID & Passcode’ page in Settings.
However, this feature is only available on iPhone 12 or newer models. That means that if you have an iPhone X, iPhone XS, or iPhone 11, you’ll need an Apple Watch to unlock your device via Face ID.
New Emojis added:
With this update, Apple brings new emoji characters, adding 37 emoji and 75 skin tone additions for a total of 112 new characters.
New faces include melting face, saluting face, face with open eyes and hand over mouth, face with peeking eye, face with diagonal mouth, and dotted line face, while new emojis include biting lip and bubbles.
Apple Card Widget:
Apple Card can now be added to the widget section/display and added to the Home screen. The Apple Card widget shows your current balance and your daily spending in different categories.
Notifications for Automations in Shortcuts:
For Personal Automations that are set up in the Shortcuts app, there’s a new “Notify When Run” option that lets you toggle notifications for Shortcuts that are activated on or off. With this option, you can choose not to be notified when a Shortcut activates, something that wasn’t possible with earlier versions of iOS 15.
